While this might appear nice and cohesive, it gets rather messy. In a flashback labeled ‘February 2005’, it shows Marshall comforting Natalie after Ted has dumped her. However, this would mean it hadn’t been three years since they last saw each other.
In another episode, season 6, episode 23, undated flashbacks show Ted getting back together with exes, including Natalie. Supposedly, he dated her for three months but it is never really explained how that all happens. Supposedly Natalie is married within a year of breaking up with Ted.
