In season 7, episode 20, there is a flash-forward into the future, and Ted is wearing a wedding ring, but it’s only 2015. Again in the episode ‘Unpause’ in season 9, episode 15, there is another flash-forward that is supposed to be in 2017, and Ted is also wearing a wedding ring.
However, the finale revealed that Ted and Tracy weren’t married until the year 2020. Some fans believe this could mean the finale wasn’t always meant to end that way.
