In season 1, episode 3, Marshall ends up in a weird set of events. He challenges a guy to a fight after believing that he is hitting on Lily; however, he ends up learning that the guy has no interest in women. Marshall then expresses his relief, claiming never to have been in a fight before.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t end it for Marshall, and he is hit by the man’s partner who practically knocks him out. However, later episodes show Marshall is more experienced than they initially made out.
