Oh, we had no idea most damage earthquakes cause can be chalked up to the shaking. That’s real valuable info there. Next thing they’ll tell us something even more outrageous, like most damage by erupting volcanoes is caused by lava.
We’re guess the editor of this particular publication had just pulled his I-don’t-feel-like-it muscle and couldn’t be bothered to read an undoubtedly technical story about earthquakes. Instead, they had a better idea – just write out literally the only thing they knew to be true about earthquakes. It’s the shaking, right? It’s always the shaking.
