If you think about it for a moment, this headline makes total sense – it was just worded really badly. So there’s a physician shortage at a hospital somewhere. Oh, no! Quick, they have to hire more… doctors? Aren’t those the same thing? Well, actually, they’re not.
You see, physicians are doctors who have not studied extra to become specialists in a certain field – like surgery, oncology, or dermatology. To put it in SAT terms, all physicians are doctors but not all doctors are physicians. And if the average reader has to think about all that just to understand your headline, you did a bad job.
