Another possibility for the long engagement is that Prince William and Kate wanted to live together before they got married. Will thought it was a better idea to do a trial run. Before the they got married, he thought it would be much smarter not to rush things and see if she really wanted this life. That way Kate could still back out if it wasn’t for her. Given the track record of other royals in history, he seemed to have a point!
