In the early days of David Letterman’s late night show, he was desperate to bring Cher on. However, he spent four years booking her for an appearance, and she’d turn him down. When she finally came on, David wanted to know why Cher had always declined his invitation to the show.
And Cher said that she had avoided him because he (Letterman) was a bad guy. David would later confess that he had blushed at that, but in the long run, it all worked out because they became close.
