When she was starting out, her management wanted to brand her as a solo artist, but she complained that she was too shy. And so, Sonny volunteered to accompany her to the stage, and she would not have to look at the crowd and become overwhelmed by shyness, but she would just look at Sonny’s eyes as she sang.
Of course, she gradually grew past her shyness and in her prime, she was a powerful presence who held her own before anyone.
