In 1988, Cher won an Oscar for her role in Moonstruck, a film directed by the legendary Norman Jewison. Cher went onstage and proceeded to thank the support staff and left out the director. When it was getting almost too late, she realized her mistake and recognized Jewison.
She claimed that her anxiety had messed up what she’d prepared to say. With guilt gnawing at her, she took a full page ad on Variety the next day, to recognize the director.
