Russel Crowe and Oliver Reed both gave impressive performances in the 2000 adventure packed Gladiator, but they were not always so impressed with each other off-camera. Russel apparently did not approve of Oliver’s often quite unprofessional behavior.
It was well-known around set Oliver would enjoy a glass or two on the job, and it did eventually affect his work and the other actors. Tragically Oliver passed away during the filming of Gladiator, due to his life-long substance abuse.
