Any director who wants to keep their sanity should probably avoid casting former romantic partners, since there is usually plenty of bad blood festering under the surface. But it seems like Some Like It Hot director Billy Wilder did not get that memo.
He cast Tony Curtis and Marilyn Monroe in the leads and the movie did indeed turn into a hit back in 1959. But the two exes reportedly wanted to strangle each other on a daily basis, so it’s safe to say no one had a good time on set.
