Evidence was left behind from the escape attempt. On June 14 one of the paddles used by the trio was found floating near the shore of Angel Island.
Later that day a wallet wrapped in plastic was found containing information about the friends and families of the Anglin brothers. On June 21 there were shreds of raincoat material found, these shreds were thought to have been the remnants of the makeshift raft and a day later a deflated life preserver was discovered just 50 yards from Alcatraz Island.
