The escape was not discovered until the morning of June 12. The dummy heads had worked in fooling the guards, and an extensive search for the fugitives now commenced.
Law enforcement and the military were brought in to search for the men on land, sea and in the air. The search lasted for 10 days though there wasn’t much sign of the escapees. Wanted posters were drawn up, and the highly public escape meant that if the men had survived they should be discovered by somebody eventually.
