The trio slid from the roof to the ground using a kitchen vent pipe before scaling two perimeter fences topped with barbed-wire.
The men knew of a blind spot where the spotlights wouldn’t be able to reach near a power plant on the northeast shoreline. At this spot, the men inflated their raft using an accordion concertina and set off into the foggy night on the water. It is believed they were aiming to reach nearby Angel Island which was just 2 miles away.
