“Swim at your own risk” signs are marked all along the Texas coast. Especially in Galveston County, the water is particularly contaminated with potentially lethal bacteria.
The Environmental Protection Agency has publicly warned people of getting in for a swim, as the microorganisms can be dangerous and harmful to the human body. If you are relatively healthy, with no cuts or sores, you would probably be fine. However, if you have a pre-existing condition, we recommend you sit this one out.
