In much of the world, people seek to conceal scars, especially if they occur on the face. That is not the case when it comes to the Karo tribe that call Ethiopia home.
This tribe practices something known as scarification, in which scars are methodically applied to the face and body. It is an intricate and fascinating form of body art, and is typically used to indicate a rite of passage in the tribe into adulthood.
