Hailing from a tribe that is a sub-group of the well-known Padaung, the women who wear heavy, brass rings around their neck are known as the “long-neck” or “giraffe” tribe. This practice is not only believed to make women more attractive, but also is a strong signifier of family wealth. While it may appear to be a painful experience that elongates the neck, the brass rings simply create a visual illusion that make the neck appear longer than it is.
