While women all over America will spend hours on the beach or in a tanning bed to achieve bronze, tanned skin, women all over South Korea and Asia actively avoid the sun at all costs to keep their skin as fair as possible.
In fact, it is not at all uncommon to see women of all ages walking outside with massive “ajumma visors” on to keep the sun from hitting their face. Women also wear long sleeves, despite the temperature outside, to keep their arms and legs from tanning.
