The chin tattoos of the Maori people from New Zealand are known all around the world, but it might be less known that Maori women take part in the practice as well.
The sacred tattoo tradition, known as Ta Moko, is used to show the woman’s family and tribal affiliation. It is also used to show her social status within her specific tribe. Each tattoo is different. Interestingly, women consider the lower lip and chin tattoo a beauty enhancer, as it makes lips appear more full.
