It wasn’t until Kate and Prince William tied the knot that James Middleton became a name that people were familiar with. Until that point, he’d flown under the radar, but the royal wedding gave him an opportunity to shine. He’d been tasked with reading a religious passage for the ceremony, something that would have been easy for anyone else. However, given James’ struggles with dyslexia, this was one of the hardest challenges he’d ever faced.
Billions of people were going to watch this wedding, which meant he couldn’t afford to mess things up. In an effort to prevent his learning difficulties from ruining his big moment, James rewrote the text phonetically so he could better understand it. Seeing it this way made a huge difference, and he was able to get through the speech without issue. If only the rest of his life had gone as smoothly.
