We are pretty sure that most of us here have read a book or watched a movie of the Harry Potter series, especially the book where Ron’s mother sent him a howler after he and Harry crashed their car.
For this student here, her father sent her a “howler” while she was away in school. Not so much to scold her, but rather, to embarrass her with him exclaiming how their family dog took a dump on their carpet in front of all her friends and classmates.
