Although these days, to take a picture is pretty much standard procedure when absolutely anything and everything happens, back in the day photos were saved for more formal occasions.
It was pretty intense, the way they would consider everything leading up to the photo, from the background to the outfit to the pose. Apparently, the kid in this photo would anonymously receive beautiful Italian clothes after he had migrated from Italy to the USA and was adopted along with 10 other children. Here he is in one of his outfits.
