Praia de Boa Viagem probably has some of the most dangerous shark-infested waters anywhere else in the world. Over 55 people have lost their lives to sharks at this beach, and the number is almost certain to rise. Researchers aren’t sure why the shark attacks are quite so often fatal, but the fatality rate from the bites here is 37%.
In particular, bull sharks lurk in the waters and hunt in the shallowest points they can. Although this beach is so dangerous, people still visit to catch some sun, but very few people actually risk going for a swim.
