Due to its powerful currents, rough waves, and very few lifeguards on duty, many people have drowned in the waters that crash onto Monastery Beach. Given the volume of drowning, most locals have taken to calling the beach ‘Mortuary Beach’ instead, given its dangerous reputation.
Even the strongest of swimmers can be dragged out to sea, so we can’t stress enough not to enter the water here. There are plenty of other beautiful beaches to visit instead.
