Never be the kind of tourist who disrespects another country’s culture. What might not be valuable to you could be the most cherished thing to someone else – and you might not ever realize the difference between the two. That’s why you should always follow whatever rules are in place, regardless of whether they inconvenience you or not.
That includes, by the way, not entering forbidden areas when they’re clearly cordoned off to the public. It doesn’t matter if you (or your girlfriend) want a cool photo for social media – no means no. Respecting this shrine was far more important than getting a few likes and follows, to everyone but this couple.
