It’s strange to us now, but silent movies were still massively popular in the 1920’s, and silent movie actors such as Evelyn Brent, here pictured in 1924 at the age of 23, were superstars.
The silent movie era began already back in 1894, and remained popular all through the ’20s. Today, how naturally actors can can deliver lines is one of the most important things to become successful. But in the ’20s, it was instead facial expression and body language that defined a good actor.
