
The Roaring Twenties – an iconic decade in history that saw tremendous advancements in everything from technology to entertainment. Many of the groundbreaking cultural trends that started around these years, were the beginning of the type of movies, music, fashion and art that we know and love today.

Here we thought planking was a strange trend. But flagpoling was a thing in the ’20s, and that’s by far weirder. Funnily enough, this was a random dare that turned into a national trend.

Alan “Shipwreck” Kelly was the man who first did it (on a dare), and he then just kept doing it, and people copied him. Alan set his personal record in 1929, when he sat on top of a flagpole for 49 days. Even crazier, some got married while flagpoling…
