As has already been mentioned, the Prohibition gave rise to plenty of cultural phenomena (and illegal activities) during this decade. But the perhaps biggest one were the speakeasies.

These were the many illegal bars all the rebellious party people of the roaring ’20s went to, in order to let loose. The name comes from “speak easy”, since the owners asked their customers to keep the existence of their illegal business on the downlow (in this times’ lingo, speak easy).
