[post_page_title]Sending kids through the mail[/post_page_title]
As absurd as this may seem now, it was perfectly legal to send children through the US Postal Service in 1920. At least, it wasn’t technically illegal.

It was a lot more expensive to take the train than send post, so some less fortunate parents figured sending the kids by mail was their best option. That doesn’t mean the kids were put in boxes or anything. But they got a postage attached to their clothes and some mail man was in charge of getting them to their destination.
