Even though motion pictures were a thing since the beginning of the 1900s, the fame that comes with being an actor increased significantly starting in the 1920s.
Charlie Chaplin could be considered the first big international movie star, as he is one of the few who already then (and still today) was recognized and admired all over the world. He made no less than 80 films during his career, and is still seen as one of the most talented comedic actors ever.
