Part of the reason the 1920s was so full of excitement, creativity and hope for the future was that the first world war had just ended. So people were sure the dark times were in the past, and the future was full of promises.

In 1920 the Olympic Games were finally held again for the first time since before the war, and the Olympic flag was introduced. America was the big winner, and took home no less than 47 gold medals.
