In the 1920s, pharmacies weren’t just places to go to get medicine when you were sick. They were also candy stores. Pharmacies sold both candy and soda, which helped make them more popular. No one wants medicine, but everyone likes a sweet treat.
Why this trend started we’re not sure, but it definitely helped people like their local pharmacist a whole lot better, and made them want to pop by a lot more often than needed.
