Working nine to five, what a way to make a living. This famous line from the 1980 Dolly Parton song, would be ironic for anyone who was part of the workforce in the 1920s. To them, the five-day, 40-hour week was a massive improvement.

Before then, there were no regulations so people were frequently working around the clock. Now suddenly people had both evenings and two full days a week to rest and enjoy life. This had a huge positive effect on American society, and peoples’ well-being.
