Many of the same people who made the Prohibition happen, were so convinced the banning of alcohol would lead to a better society, they thought jails would no longer be needed. And if all crime happened because of alcohol, why would they be?

So some towns tried to sell their jailhouses. Luckily there were no buyers, and towns soon realized crime wasn’t going anywhere. As a matter of fact, it only increased during the Prohibition era.
