Jazz clubs rose in popularity throughout the ’20s, and it was much thanks to the women. Sarah Vaughn for example (pictured here to the left) would sneak illegally into clubs to sing, and eventually became so successful even Frank Sinatra praised her voice.

And Lena Horne, pictured to the right, eventually managed to sign a Hollywood contract thanks to her jazz singing and dancing. The radio also helped spread these ladies’, and many more jazz talent’s, music to mainstream society.
