When he was serving in the Air Force, Cash had to undergo surgery in order to get a cyst removed from his face. Apparently, the story goes that the doctor operating on him was so intoxicated whilst he was doing the procedure that he really messed up somehow.
This ultimately resulted in Cash having a permanent scar on his face. Well, that is one way for someone to leave their mark on a musical legend.
