When you think about it, airplanes are actually pretty small. Sure, airlines can fit a ton of people into a relatively small amount of space, but that’s more of a matter of efficiency than spaciousness. That’s why any sounds on an airplane can be particularly bothersome.
A small, private conversation is suddenly the business of everybody within earshot…which means that if you have a loud seatmate, everyone for the next five rows will be privy to it. For the sake of your fellow passengers, if you’re going to chat with someone, use your indoor voice.
