Bittencourt’s father, Orley, echoed the thoughts of the port authority by claiming his daughter being in the water was nothing more than an accident. He dismissed claims that she jumped in to save the dogs as “inaccurate” and urged people to “listen to the facts.”
Orley said that Sestini told him a big wave hit the boat which sent his daughter flying into the water from the deck. The current then took Bittencourt quickly away from the boat, and Sestini was unable to throw a float in after her.
