The marina owner, Leonardo Oliveira, claimed that he warned Sestini about the incoming storm not once, but twice. Sestini and Bittencourt had spent the weekend on an archipelago and were on their way home when the storm hit.
They might have presumed because the storm hadn’t hit all weekend that they would be safe to come back, but that wasn’t the case. The conditions were dangerous according to Oliveira, and the marina owner alleges that Sestini was aware of the risks taking the boat out brought.
