Alvera was born in 1921 to parents Camille Kilbourne, a lady of English and Scottish descent (who was also a person of color), and Azemar Frederic, a black man who hailed from New Orleans (which was also Alvera’s birthplace).
However, her skin color was much lighter than an average black person, and thus, she often managed to pass off as white. On meeting Harold, she abandoned her family and married him, moving off to Ohio and cut off all her ties from her past life. She confirmed that all of Gail’s doubts were indeed true.
