After much reading, analyzing and comprehending, Gail had finally figured out the meaning behind the strange letter B against some of the names on the list, including the ones that could have belonged to her grandfather.

The letter B was used to denote the person’s race, which in this case, meant that the person was indeed a person of color. And on the census, every person with the name Azemar Frederic was marked with the same letter. Could one of them actually have been her grandfather? Gail was perplexed. How could it even be possible?
