This sounds like it would be a fun read – “How to Win and Hold a Husband,” a book by 1930s-era author Dorothy Dix. One of the very specific and yet at the same time very open to interpretation rules she gives out to the single ladies of her time is that “men do not like sentimental women.”

What does that even mean? What’s a sentimental person? A person who cries? Laughs? Has feelings? So like – a normal human being?
