An educational film from the 1970s advised women on how to present themselves on dates, and it gives us a glimpse into the mindset of the time.
One scene shows a woman who works in a position of authority trying to decide whether she should open the door for her date, or let him do it for her. To the camera, she says that it’s hard to remember that after 5pm, “this little pumpkin changes and becomes the lady,” so she should let the man get the door for her.
