Imagine having to calculate how many times a week you can see your date without being judged by society. That’s what people had to do back in the 1880s, according to “The Home Manual. Everybody’s Guide in Social, Domestic and Business Life.”
The author of the book, published in 1889, states that it is not proper for a gentleman to visit a lady more than three evenings in a week – unless he is engaged to her.
