The dating advice from the 1890s is as weird as it gets. We were particularly impressed by this drop of wisdom published in the “Social Etiquette or Manners and Customs of Polite Society,” from 1896.

They say that if you want more friends and dates, the best you can do is… to leave them. “Nothing will contribute more to your success,” author Maud C. Cooke wrote, claiming we should all cultivate the “art of leaving.”
