We can’t say we see anything particularly appealing in a game of bridge, but apparently, in the first half of the 20th century, knowing how to play cards earned you extra points during a date.
In addition to looking good, women were expected to be “entertaining and amusing,” and authors like Dorothy Dix believed that bridge was a great way for ladies to show off their intellect. Was “bridge and chill” the “Netflix and chill” of the 1930s?
