Being cast in ‘Valley of the Dolls’ was a big break for Tate, but the production had troubles from the beginning. Judy Garland had initially been cast to star in the film, but after just a week in the role, the now-legendary actress was axed.
The ‘Wizard of Oz’ star had fallen from grace by the 1960s, but Tate had her own troubles on the set. Her director, Mark Robson, was known for being cruel to his stars, and Tate often felt his wrath.
