For starters, there is the fact that Charlize was raised in South Africa during the apartheid era. She was quoted saying in an interview back in 2019 that she had not experienced what atrocities were involved with an apartheid until she was 12 or 13.
It was then that Charlize began attending an art school in Johannesburg, where she was witness to the horrible situation that had been occurring around her during all these years.
