As travel becomes easier, more and more people have a burning desire to roam the planet. It’s so easy to stay in our own little bubbles and not explore the world, but once you start traveling it’s hard to stop. Some of us love to go solo when we’re exploring while others enjoy the company of a friend when globetrotting. Traveling alone or with a friend, what’s better? We’re weighing up the pros and cons of both.
Solo
Heading out into the world alone can be daunting for many people. There are so many horror stories about people who go traveling on their own, but it’s not all bad. One of the benefits of going traveling on your own is that you actually never really feel lonely. From exploring busy cities to remote islands, you’re always going to bump into like-minded travelers. Staying in hostels or traveling through a company will put you in touch with others who are just like you.
The beauty of traveling alone is that you are the master of your own destiny. If you feel as though you’ve stayed long enough in one place then you can happily move on to the next destination. If you’re traveling with a friend you both have to be happy, and your friend might not want to leave where you’re staying, but you do. When you travel on your own you are forced to speak to other people, and it’s in those moments that friendships are forged. Many people who go traveling solo end up with lifelong pals no matter where in the world they are.
With a friend
Traveling alone is a big commitment, so why not go exploring in a remote part of the world with a close buddy? You already know you get along, so you don’t have to worry about making friends with anyone new to survive, it can be you and your buddy against the world! Traveling with your best friend is pretty much a guarantee that you’re going to have a good time. It takes away the fear of not making friends with anyone new, meaning you can just relax and enjoy yourselves.
You and your friend can be there for each other. That can be important as you’re away from home and in a foreign land. You don’t know if you can trust a stranger, but you and your friend are so close that you trust each other with everything.
Traveling with a friend means you guys can watch each other’s backs if you’ve got a long layover. Some solo travelers rent a car and head across their chosen country without anyone to help them. Friends traveling together can take shifts driving, meaning you’ll be less tired and actually able to enjoy the experiences you have.
It’s down to personal preference whether you want to go solo or take a friend on your adventure. Going solo forces you out of your comfort zone, making your adventures more memorable, but with a friend, you have the security of someone you know to share your experiences with.
