Traveling is great, but nobody looks forward to long flights, especially if you have to head straight from the airport to an important event. Rolling up with tangled hair and a tracksuit is not always ideal. While most airlines today do a fantastic job at keeping us comfortable, there are a few extra ways to maximize the level of comfort and step off the plane looking like a million bucks.
These are a few tips on how to look chic and feel comfortable when flying.
Dress the part
Restrictive clothing is the worst choice for flying, so instead opt for something loose-fitting but stylish. Wear cotton wherever possible and use thin layers to keep warm. A cotton top with a chic cardigan is the perfect way to balance your temperature mid-flight. If sneakers aren’t your thing, comfy sandals are good too, just be sure to pack a pair of thick socks in your hand luggage to keep your feet warm and cozy.
Minimal makeup
Traveling without makeup on can make us feel a bit vulnerable and insecure. Usually, we opt to fly barefaced because it is more comfortable, but it doesn’t mean you can’t wear any makeup at all. A light coat of mascara, a bit of concealer, and a tinted lip balm are more than enough to keep you feeling confident and comfortable. Just be sure to pack organic lip balm, as the dry cabin air will cause your lips to dry out and crack.
Treat your eyes
The air tends to get very dry in the cabin, which could cause your eyes to become red and irritated. The dry air combined with lack of sleep and dehydration will more than likely result in some very uncomfortable eyes. Saline or moisturizing eye drops are the answer. Using these during the middle of the flight and just before landing will leave you looking revived and refreshed when you step off the plane.
Don’t neglect your fluids
In a climate-controlled environment, it’s vital to keep yourself hydrated – especially if you want to step off the plane looking your best. It’s not only beneficial for the body but will also help keep your skin moisturized and ward off any jet lag after effects. Moving around during the flight is also important for blood circulation, so take advantage of bathroom breaks.
Fresh breath
Be sure to pack a toothbrush and toothpaste in your hand luggage. Long flights can be boring, and as a result, we tend to snack more. A fresh mouth is a happy mouth, and bad breath can put a damper on our confidence. Scrubbing those pearly whites mid-flight will keep you feeling refreshed and comfortable.
Keep it clean
Some flights can take hours to reach a destination and depending on the schedule or additional connecting flights, it could be a very long time until you can hit the shower again. For most travellers, there is nothing more uncomfortable than feeling dirty. The solution? A moist towelette to the rescue! These conveniently packaged napkins of joy will help remove some grime and leave you feeling rejuvenated in a matter of seconds.
With great tips like these, there’s no reason to ever dread another long flight. Utilize the carry-on capacity with a well-stocked bag of essentials to keep you looking and feeling fabulous.
